What you don’t know about wax candles could kill you. The only safe wax is bee’s wax. There are no safe paraffin candles. Don’t be fooled by clever marketing. The wax candle industry generates sales of $4 billion per year plus, and more than 90 percent of the National Candle Association’s members are involved with either domestic or imported wax candles. They certainly don’t want us to know about the potential danger, because their battle cry is “profits before people.”
Paraffin is distilled from petroleum. It is what remains after asphalt is extracted. Proposition 65 and EPA studies have identified at least seven major toxins in the waxy, sooty particulate matter released into the air when the candles are burned. Among the toxins are three cancer causing agents — toluene, benzene and naphthalene. Besides coating ceilings and walls, the toxic soot coats our lungs. At considerable risk for health damage are children, pets (especially birds) and those with immune system disorders — a long list that includes asthma, allergies, cancer, fibromyalgia, lupus, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis, among others.
Our candles are human, pet and environment friendly. Handcrafted in Ohio, they use top-quality raw materials provided by other American companies. The gel used, for example, is made from the same pure medical-grade white mineral oil used to coat gel capsules. Our candles burn clean and cool, with lead-free wicks and wonderful scents that won’t provoke asthma or allergies. They burn up to five times longer than comparable paraffin wax candles. When the candle is gone, the covered glass containers can be washed and used for food storage.
All gels are not created equal. The technology is very precise. Poorly made gels burn hot and generate soot. Our candles adhere to the strictest safety standards. When burned and maintained they will provide many clean, carefree and pleasurable hours of beauty, with fragrance that remains throughout the life of the candle.
